Rehwinkel Vasilinda Goes Republican

Former state Rep. Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda of Tallahassee announced last year she was leaving the Democratic Party to become an independent. She also backed Republican Donald Trump during the presidential campaign.

Now, she has taken the next step and become a Republican. The state GOP made the announcement Thursday night after the Leon County Republican Party’s Lincoln Dinner.

Rehwinkel Vasilinda left the House last year because of term limits.

“Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda has honorably served her constituents for the past eight years and has a history of siding with Republicans on several issues,” state GOP Chairman Blaise Ingoglia said in a prepared statement. “I believe she has been a great public servant for the state of Florida and led efforts for a more robust economy, lower taxes and an increase in job creation.  We welcome Michelle to the Republican Party and we look forward to working with her.”
